Before you ask
Questions buyers ask us first.
Answered with the certificate reference or the standard number wherever one exists. Where a figure depends on your batch or your market, we say so instead of publishing a number that will not match what ships.
What is sodium chlorite used for?
Mainly as the precursor for chlorine dioxide. Activated by acid it generates high-purity chlorine dioxide for drinking water and municipal treatment, where it produces far fewer disinfection by-products than chlorine. It is also used for textile and pulp bleaching, medical and device disinfection, food processing and aquaculture, and as an oxidant in flue gas denitrification.
What is the difference between sodium chlorite and sodium hypochlorite?
They are different compounds with different chemistry. Sodium chlorite is NaClO₂ (CAS 7758-19-2); sodium hypochlorite is NaClO, the active ingredient in household bleach. Sodium chlorite is used chiefly to generate chlorine dioxide, which penetrates better, works across a wider pH range and leaves fewer chlorinated by-products. They are not interchangeable — check which one your process specifies before ordering.
Is your sodium chlorite approved for drinking water treatment?
Our sodium chlorite is listed on the official United States inventory of drinking water treatment chemicals under NSF International, and is registered under EU REACH for the European market. NSF covers North America and REACH covers the EU — neither transfers to the other, so tell us the destination market before asking for certificates.
Which standard is your sodium chlorite manufactured to?
HG/T 3250-2023, the Chinese industry standard for industrial sodium chlorite. Gaoyuan organised and compiled that 2023 revision, after taking part in drafting the 2010 edition. If a supplier still quotes HG/T 3250-2010, they are citing a superseded edition.
How is sodium chlorite classified for transport?
UN 1908, as a solution. It must not be transported together with acids or reducing substances, and dry powder extinguishers are prohibited — use water spray or sand. We supply the SDS on request; tell us the destination and mode of transport so the documentation matches your route.
What packaging and net weights are available?
Solid ships in iron drums with a plastic inner liner at 50 kg net per drum. Liquid ships in IBC totes at 1,250 kg net, 200 L polyethylene drums at 250 kg net, or 20 L polyethylene drums at 25 kg net. Customised packaging and concentration are available on request.
What certification does the factory hold?
ISO 9001 (ref. 10423Q01965R1M), ISO 14001 (ref. 10423E01271R1M) and ISO 45001 (ref. 10423S01149R0M), all issued by Shandong Seatone International Certification Co., Ltd. under CNAS accreditation. The certificate scans are published on our quality page so the references can be checked with the certification body directly.
What assay and impurity figures can you confirm before I order?
We issue a certificate of analysis against the batch you are quoted, rather than publishing a single headline figure that may not match what ships. Tell us the grade and end use and we will send the COA and SDS for the relevant batch. The application decides the grade, and the grade decides both the specification and the paperwork.
Do you also produce chloroethylene carbonate?
Yes. Chloroethylene carbonate (CAS 3967-54-2, C₃H₃ClO₃) is made on a dedicated line commissioned in 2022, with 40,000 t/y capacity. It is used as a lithium-ion electrolyte additive to improve cycle performance and service life, and the high-purity grade also serves as a flame-retardant additive.
